How Changing Food Changed Our Cats’ Health at Purr Vida Lounge

At Purr Vida Lounge, we spend every single day surrounded by cats.
Rescue cats.Senior cats.Kittens.Cats recovering from difficult situations.Cats healing physically and emotionally.

And one thing we started noticing over the years was this:
Food changes everything.
Not just weight. Not just shiny fur.But energy, mood, digestion, skin, healing… even personality.
Some of our rescue cats arrived tired, bloated, itchy, stressed, or constantly sick. A few struggled with diarrhea, hair loss, dull coats, low energy, or inflammation. Some simply looked “off” even after receiving love and veterinary care.
That’s when Miss Meow started paying closer attention to what we were feeding them.
We Realized Many Cats Are Eating “Fast Food”
A lot of commercial cat foods are heavily processed and filled with ingredients cats were never truly designed to eat in large amounts.
Cats are obligate carnivores.Their bodies are built for animal protein, moisture, and nutrient-rich foods.
But many dry foods are packed with:
Fillers
Corn
Wheat
Artificial flavors
Low-quality byproducts
Too many carbohydrates
For some cats, especially sensitive rescue cats, this can create long-term health issues.
The Changes We Started Making
We slowly began introducing healthier foods into our cats’ diets.
Not perfection. Not expensive luxury meals.Just better, fresher, more natural nutrition.
We added things like:
Cooked chicken
Bone broth
Pumpkin
Fish oil
Organs like liver and heart
Wet food with higher meat content
More hydration
Less processed dry food
And honestly…the difference shocked us.
What We Noticed
Within weeks, many of our cats started changing.
Their fur became softer and shinier.Energy levels improved. Some stopped having digestive issues.A few became more playful and social.Inflammation and skin problems improved.Even litter box smells became less intense.
One of the biggest things we noticed?
Our cats simply looked happier.
Healthier cats move differently. They sleep differently. They interact differently. You can feel it.
Rescue Cats Need Nutrition Even More
Many rescue cats come from difficult environments.
Some survived on scraps. Some were dehydrated. Some experienced stress, parasites, or illness before arriving at the lounge.
Good nutrition becomes part of their healing journey.
Food is not just “feeding.”It’s medicine. It’s recovery. It’s love.
Small Changes Matter
You don’t need to become a perfect cat nutrition expert overnight.
Even small improvements can make a huge difference:
Adding wet food
Increasing water intake
Feeding higher-quality protein
Reducing heavily processed foods
Adding healthy toppers occasionally
Every cat is different, and of course we always recommend speaking with your veterinarian before making major diet changes.
But learning about nutrition completely changed the way we care for our rescue cats.
From Our Lounge to Your Home
At Purr Vida Lounge, our mission has always been about giving cats a better life.
Sometimes that means rescue.Sometimes that means adoption. And sometimes…it simply starts with what’s inside their food bowl.
The healthier our cats became, the more we realized:good food truly changes lives.
And honestly?
We think cats deserve better than surviving. They deserve to thrive.
